Personal training and functional movement.
We’re pleased to welcome Aaron Hogben to the Living Valley team. With more than 20 years of experience in personal training and functional movement, Aaron brings a thoughtful and deeply practical approach to how we move, not just in exercise, but in everyday life.
Aaron’s background spans multiple disciplines, from strength and conditioning through to martial arts, yoga, Tai Chi and Qigong. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement from The University of South Australia, along with Certificate III and IV in Fitness. What stands out most is his philosophy. For Aaron, movement isn’t about pushing harder or doing more. It’s about learning how to move well, building strength, coordination and stability in a way that supports the body long-term.
Movement That Supports Real Life
Aaron’s approach is centred around one key idea. What you do in training should help you feel better, move better and have more energy in your daily life. This aligns closely with the Living Valley philosophy, supporting the body in a way that is sustainable, restorative and designed for long-term wellbeing. Guests working with Aaron can expect a focus on mobility and joint health, coordination and balance, strength that supports everyday movement, and a deeper awareness of how their body moves.
Kind Words:
"Thank you, Aaron, for your authenticity and deep wisdom about the body, mind, and spirit.
No matter each person’s level of fitness in our group, you showed genuine care and thoughtful attention to every guest. It makes such a real difference and created an environment where everyone felt supported and valued.
Thank you and hope to visit again next year."
-Trish, Retreat Guest march 2026
Aaron’s work at Living Valley is integrated into the daily rhythm of the retreat.
Across many of our programs, guests will experience his approach through guided functional movement sessions, designed to support the body in a way that feels both accessible and effective.
His Healthy Movement classes take a full-body approach, focusing on mobility, coordination and stability. The intention is simple, to help you move well, build strength where it matters and develop patterns that support your body long after you leave the retreat.
Alongside this, Aaron also offers Tai Chi and Qigong to our guests, bringing in a slower, more meditative approach to movement. As a registered instructor with the Tai Chi for Health Institute, his sessions combine steady, flowing movement with breath and awareness, supporting nervous system regulation, posture, balance and coordination.
Qigong is more stationary, often practised standing or seated, while Tai Chi introduces more movement through space, gently engaging the body while maintaining a calm, controlled pace.
For those wanting more personalised support whilst staying at Living Valley, Aaron is also available for one-on-one sessions as an optional add-on. These sessions allow for a more tailored approach to movement, strength and mobility, working with your individual needs and goals.
Aaron’s approach to movement reflects what we believe at Living Valley. Not intensity for the sake of it, but movement that supports the body, restores balance and helps you feel better in yourself. We’re looking forward to having him as part of the team.
Movement is just one part of the experience, but often one of the most impactful.
