Feel Better This Spring

Spring has a way of making healthy habits feel a little easier. The mornings are brighter, fresh produce is abundant and warmer weather naturally invites us to spend more time outside and move a little more.

For Living Valley CEO Giselle Martin, the change of season isn’t about completely overhauling your routine. Instead, she returns to a handful of simple habits that support her energy and wellbeing and are easy to carry into everyday life. From her morning tonic and a few minutes of early sunshine to seasonal eating and taking stock of the habits that may no longer be serving you, here are five of Giselle’s favourites for feeling better this spring.

1. Start your day with a Morning Tonic

Each morning, I make a simple tonic with mineral water, Vitamin C powder, fresh lemon juice, and liquid chlorophyll. It’s a ritual I’ve followed for years to gently rehydrate after sleep and prepare for the day. Vitamin C supports collagen production, tissue repair, immune function, and protects cells from oxidative stress. Lemon juice helps stimulate digestion and supports the body’s natural alkalising processes. I add chlorophyll for its plant compounds, trace minerals, and amazing alkalising properties. This tonic is a refreshing way to nourish my body, reduce acidity, support digestion, and start the day feeling energised..”

2. Let the morning sun set your day

Every morning, I take my morning tonic outside and spend a few quiet moments in the sunshine before the day begins. It’s a simple ritual that helps me feel grounded, present and ready for the day ahead. Morning sunlight is one of nature’s greatest medicines. It helps regulate your circadian rhythm, your body’s internal clock, which influences your energy levels, mood, hormone balance and the quality of your sleep. Sunlight also stimulates your skin to produce vitamin D, an essential nutrient that supports healthy bones, immune function, muscle function and overall wellbeing. Making time for just 10 to 15 minutes of natural sunlight each day is one of the simplest yet most powerful things you can do for your health.

3. Eat what’s in season

“Spring is my favourite time of the year because nature comes alive with an abundance of fresh, vibrant produce. Eating seasonally means your vegetables and fruits are fresher, more flavoursome and richer in nutrients, while also supporting our local farmers. Some of my favourite spring vegetables are pak choy, broccolini and snow peas. They’re packed with fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help nourish the body and support overall health.”

4. Spring clean your habits

We often spring clean our homes, but I believe it’s just as important to spring clean our daily habits. Spring is the perfect time to pause and ask yourself, “What’s one habit that’s no longer serving me?” It might be too much sugar, too much coffee, too much alcohol, scrolling your phone before bed or simply not making enough time for yourself. Lasting health isn’t always about adding more to your life. Often, it’s about letting go of the habits that are holding you back and creating space for healthier ones to flourish.

5. Prioritise protein and healthy fats

One of the most important things you can do for your health each day is make sure you’re eating enough quality protein and healthy fats. These are essential for building and repairing tissues, supporting muscle health, balancing hormones, keeping you feeling satisfied and providing your body with a steady source of energy. Rather than relying on highly processed carbohydrates and sugary snacks, build your meals around quality protein and healthy fats such as eggs, grass-fed meats, organic soft cheeses like Brie, avocado, nuts, seeds and extra virgin olive oil. It’s one of the simplest ways to nourish your body, support healthy weight, stable energy levels and promote long-term health.
